"DAMMIT! THAT'S THE LAST TIME YOU STAB ME!" It's too early to be up on a Sunday but I'm watching The Seven Samurai so the pain is bareable. Saying that I'm always a little annoyed when I watch it because the BFI DVD that I have states that at 190 minutes this is the most complete version of the film available... well that's not quite true - the original Japanese version ran at 203 minutes which is available on VHS in the States and on the current Criterion DVD - an older Criterion disc that has now been deleted actually contained a 207 minute version and that's the fucker that I'm after. You would think that the BFI would be able to match any American release but the sad thing is if you want the best DVD you need to go straight to Criterion - their cuts of Rushmore, Brazil and Time Bandits are probably the best DVDs I own... Check out the version of The Royal Tenenbaums that they just released and will be winging it's way to my grubby little hands very soon - guess what the UK release (only out in December!) has on it? Fuck all... fucking bacward island that we live on. It's too early for such moaning... I'll only be home quite late so I doubt much will change with the site until tomorrow.
