"ONE MONKEY ALMOST WIPED OUT AN ENTIRE TOWN AND KEVIN SPACEY WITH THE DEADLY MOTABA VIRUS" What a year for cool movies. Forget all the other stuff I've been going on about. Get out and see 28 Days Later as soon as you can. It should have made for the perfect halloween movie apart from one thing... it was fucking scary. Not the lazy 'something leaping out at you from screen left' kind of scary but the 'screaming the word fuck out loud as you try and get back into your seat. Danny Boyle, who I bumped into on Tuesday, has been trying to play down the zombie angle as he doesn't want to scare off a more 'regular' audience but jesus this is a fucking excellent zombie movie - and these bastards are fast. The fact that it's all filmed on digital cameras helps a lot - you just have to see the vomiting blood - fucking beautiful. Big nods to Romero of course, especially the twisted military angle but it has a lot in common with other classics like The Omega Man and Day of the Triffids. An empty London is stunning, Manchester burning is a great idea too but the best bit by far is watching those thumbs sink into that bastard's eyes while he squeals like a little girl... Jess was as scared as I've ever seen her and I was on edge for quite a while too. Fucking great stuff. Also works as a reaction to the mad cow outbreak, worry over Anthrax attack, 9-11, post Millennium angst and just all out rage at all the shit stuff in the world.
