Felt a little ill again today - this has been dragging on for too long and I'm getting bored... Spent the day tracking down the soundtracks for all three Wes Anderson films; 'Bottle Rocket', 'Rushmore' and 'The Royal Tenenbaums' - which we went to see yesterday after Jess took a nosedive away from studying. Great film - better than Rushmore - a lot darker and a lot funnier - I actually cried with laughter outside the cinema just thinking about the scene were Royal takes the kids running through traffic - best thing I've seen in ages. The soundtrack was great - but the problem with the CDs of all the Wes Anderson films is that they are incomplete due to some silly legal reasons - thank fuck for AudioGalaxy - took me a good portion of the day but I got around 28 tracks for 'Royal Tenenbaums' - 8 more than the CD but still missing the crucial 'Hey Jude' that ties together that wonderful opening sequence - it doesn't exist anywhere at the moment until someone burns it direct from the movie - there's a lot of misinformation online attributing the track to Elliott Smith but I can't find any basis for that. Did get the Paul Simon track that accompanies Gene Hackman and the kids around mythical New York though. I got some extra bits and pieces for both 'Rushmore' and 'Bottle Rocket' too. Drop me an email if you want these soundtracks and I'll send 'em on over. I've been thinking a lot about the Wes Anderson / Owen Wilson writing team set-up... It bothered me that Owen Wilson did such a waste of time movie as 'Behind Enemy Lines' - it just seemed out of character for him... but then I remembered that Wes Anderson wrote the part of Royal specifically for Gene Hackman - something that Hackman loathes - initially he refused to do the movie. I'm wondering if Anderson and Wilson are wiley enough to manipulate Wilson into the crappy action film simply so thay could get closer to Hackman who was also in it... sounds far-fetched huh? But just how much of Royal's and Max Fischer's deviousness comes straight from Anderson? Well Its a nice theory and i'm sticking to it. I'm still getting emails and text messages every couple of hours regarding the robots... odd that such a thing has set so many people off in such a fun way... ha - just as I wrote that Chris sent me another 5 or so to add to the list... Mike is blogging to: the sound of the Moulin Rouge DVD that is playing in the background
