I found out today that I've gotta work this Sunday which is kind of odd as it'll be my last Sunday in the store. The good thing is that I'll be finished by 5pm so I can hightail it into town to see Tomahawk destroy the Astoria. Time Out reckon its "this week's must-see rock show" which I must admit has left me a little perplexed. I remember bunking off from sixth form to go to Manchester to meet Faith No More and get some records signed (That's right - vinyl) - that day was great - I still have the signed records and an old leather jacket (Where I had painstakingly painted 'Faith No More' on the back Mike Patton wrote 'sucks' underneath) - Big Jim was very impressive while Patton made a lot of odd squeaking noises a little like R2D2. The thing is that back then no fucker knew who they were - the great thing about being British in the eighties is that all the popular music was fucking rank. Anyone with a little sense sought something stranger than aussie soap stars or more underground than a twat waving dafodils around his head. So I grew up travelling to see bands that only 2 other people I knew had actually heard of - god one of the first gigs I ever went to must have been Youth of Today. Anyway, I'm getting sidetracked. The idea of going to a 'popular' gig is slightly alarming. Last year I went to see Eminem and that was a mistake - he was kind of fun but the audience were all Sun reading dumb fucks with their kids. I'm sure that the Tomahawk audience will not know what hit them but I feel real sorry for anyone reading this week's time out and going along to the gig - perhaps with a vague memory of 'Epic' on MTV expecting some kind of Nu-Metal pop shit.
With a little luck I'll get a camera in and take some shots of the boys - I kicked myself for not having one with me when I saw Fantomas in San Francisco - it still tickles me that they were supported by a fucking laptop...
Mike is blogging to : Tomahawk (of course) - God Hates a Coward
