Yesterday I got Mr Hyde but today I got the very nice Dr Jekyll. I am now loaded up with drugs and a nice piece of paper that should keep me away from work for 4 days. The down side is that it will take 4 days for me to get back to 'normal' but I'm not letting that get in the way of the 'Tomahawk' gig on Sunday. The tickets arrived today for 'The Alkaline Trio' too - I think that gig is a week today. Stu sent me this today. I've seen similar arguments online regarding September 11th and know from talking to experts that something was odd about the fact that the third jet was not intercepted giving the timeframe... bottom line is that these conspiracy-theories are going to pop up with every disaster from now on. To me the scary thing is not that we are able to construct theories regarding the possibility that the American government 'attacked' itself to cause the ongoing military campaign but rather that we are jaded enough to believe that its possible. Our mistrust for those in power has grown and grown over the last decade. Yesterday I saw a story claiming that the Russian government may have been behind a series of self inflicted 'terrorist' acts. I think thats possible. Is it possible that Bush and co. would sit by while planes hit the WTC seeing it as an excuse to roll out the military machine? I believe so - but that doesn't mean that it happened that way. Then again - say Bush knew of the second plane heading for NYC and had the opportunity to knock it out of the sky - if he did so and that story broke would he still be as popular with the Americans today. The whole thing has now cemented Bush into the White House thats for sure - the conspiracy stuff is interesting but can also distract from other interesting questions: why were the majority of the terrorists involved with Sept 11 from Saudi Arabia? Why were we so quick to destroy the 'evil' Afghan regime when the Saudi one is just as brutal? Then there's the role of the US and UK in the former Yugoslavia... The greatest worry of course are all the laws that have been quickly put forward to tackle 'terrorism' but in fact take away the civil liberties of everyone reading this blog.
