"BOND. JAMES BOND" So we saw this other flat today. Really plush, really nice. Converted warehouse, couple of original features but otherwise very minimalist. The owner herself showed us around so we got the full works. By the time we get to the 'mood lighting' I'm just thinking more money then sense but then she asks us to sit down to see the home cinema in action. First thing I noticed when I walked in were all these funky Bang & Olufsen sunken speakers and gizmos but a quite dull ordinary television perched up in the corner so I sat down thinking this is going to sound great but look crap on that pitiful little thing. That's when two things happened that I could only describe as miraculous. With a single flick of a remote control black out blinds slowly fell over all the windows and then like the Angel Gabriel descending on a group of startled shepherds a 12-ft cinema screen lowered itself from the ceiling. We were then treated to the opening scene from Goldeneye in brain-numbing surround sound. The floor quaked, the walls shook, I think I probably came but was too enthralled to notice. Everything after that was a blur - even the fish swimming around in the wall. We got outside and Jess said, "Well?" I think I wept for a little while, bathing in the memory. Rather than go to work I paced around outside the flat for the rest of the day hoping that someone would take pity on me, let me back in and watch the rest of the film. I have seen the face of God and it was Pierce Brosnan. I swear in HIS name that by the time Die Another Day appears on DVD that surround system will be mine. Oh yes it will. Just you wait and see.
