"I KNEW YOU WERE UP TO SOMETHING, THOUGH I'LL CONFESS I HADN'T THOUGHT OF NECROPHILIA" Saw Mamoru Oshii's Avalon today. Pretty excited at the premise after being such a fan of PatLabor and Ghost in the Shell but I'm sorry to say I found the whole thing quite uneventful. It all looked great and sounded better but actually bored me rigid in places. Would have made a better animated feature although the acting was pretty good. I've seen similar ideas done far better and to be honest post-Matrix you need to be a little more innovative than this. Oh well... Saw the trailer for L.I.E. at last and have transferred all my excitement onto that. I've been raving about the book of the same name by David Hollander to everyone I know for the last six months but I don't think this is the same animal. Shame but Brian Cox looks great in it. Duncan sent me this great article on 'Godspeed You Black Emperor!' Never gone near them because of the silly metal name but after reading the interview and after-interview rant that Duncan provided we picked up a copy of the new album. Good stuff - very soundtrackish and made even the simple art of cooking garden peas seem heroic and epic. Just watched The Osbournes - priceless. Bit more writing and then maybe an early night...
